Rajni Gabra and Harni Gabra are the annual festivals of the colourful Dimasa tribe. The annual festival of the colourful Dimasa tribe. It is exclusively a socio-religious festival which is generally observed before starting a new cultivation. Rajini Gabra is celebrated during day time. The 'Kunang' or the village headman propitiates the family deity by closing the village gate on the worship date. On the same night in a function called 'Harni Gabra', the presiding deity is worshipped for the protection and welfare of the people.
Rajini Gabra and Harni Gabra in Assam is one such festival that celebrates the spirit of vitality before beginning the new season of farming. Rajini Gabra and Harni Gabra is essentially a feature of the Dimasa tribe. Though a religious festival to its core and performed with meticulous piousness, the celebrations have acquired a social significance over the ages. This festival is also considered to be the biggest annual celebration of Dimasa tribe. |
