Fairs and festivals in Haryana make for unrestrained merrymaking. Haryana participates in festivals taking place all over the country. Lohri is celebrated with a deep religious fervor on the 13th of January every year. In April, the Harvest festival or Baisakhi takes place in Haryana. Both in Haryana and Punjab, farmers start harvesting with great exultation. Farmers rejoice with dance, music and feasting.
The most vibrant festival is the Teej festival, marks the arrival of the monsoon, symbolizing the rejuvenation of the landscape and human life. Women are spruced up wearing trinkets and designer apparels and fast the whole day praying for the long life of their husbands. Sanjhi is celebrated in the month of October in the rural areas of Haryana. Goddess Durga called Sanjhi by the womenfolk of the regions is worshipped in this festival. Vintage Car Rally is organized by the owners of “The Statesman”. The fair unique to Haryana is the Surajkund Crafts Mela. This large-scale affair is the greatest crafts fair in India. Celebrated in February, the fair offers a platform to showcase talents of skilled craftsmen. |
