Besides the traditional fairs, recently established festivals involving elephants, camel races, dance and music have also become very popular among the tourists.

 

International Kite Festival, Jaipur

Jaipur, the Pink City of India , is home to several fascinating tourist spots such as the Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal, Amer Fort, and the Nahargarh Fort . But Jaipur is also well-known for the International Kite Festival that is held here on Makar Sankranti or 14th January every year. Celebrated for three consecutive days, the festival reflects a spirit of gay splendor and attracts the best kite flyers of the world to participate and exhibit their kite flying skills in this unique festival. The colorful paper kites in red, blue, yellow, green, pink, orange, fushcia, indigo, ochre, gold and silver kites adorn the azure skies of Jaipur.

The festival is inaugurated near the Jaipur Polo Ground, followed by the Air Force helicopters letting loose a plethora of colorful kites. The festival is divided into two sections - Kite War and Friendly Kite Flying Session. On the concluding day, the finals are held followed by the prize distribution ceremony on the royal turf of the magnificent Umaid Bhawan Palace
