About Kaup BeachSituated 12 kms. south of Udupi, on the coastal belt that passes through the West Coast National Highway, Kaup has a lovely beach, a ruined fort and an old 100ft. high lighthouse. The two temples of Goddess Mariamma in Kaup are famous. The Jain basadis here are in ruins, but are worth a visit.Near by is a lighthouse built by the British in 1901. This 130-ft high structure emits its brilliance for 26 nautical miles. Also worth a visit the Hosa Mariamma Temple, belived to be 200 yrars old and designed like an ancient home, there is a bronze statue of the trible goddess, Mariamma, who is worshipped by three communities and believed to protect the entire village from harm.
