In the 11th century, Chanderi was a strategically important place. It was an important military outpost and also lay in the main trade route. Legend has it that at one point of time Chanderi was so thickly forested that Babur, the Mughal Emperor could trace the fort after searching the depths of the jungle for six months.
An annual fair is held each year in honor of Jaageshwari Devi and this is one of the major Tourist Attractions in Chanderi.

Chanderi Fort :
This fort is regarded as the most important Tourist Attraction of Chanderi . It dates back to the Mughal Period and stands tall on top of a hill.
Koshak Mahal : This Mahal was built by Mahmud Khilji of Malwa in 1445 A.D. The palace is divided into four equal parts and is reflective of very good architectural skills.
Parameshwar Tal : This is a tank built by the Bundela Rajput kings. On the bank of this beautiful tank there is a temple and the cenotaphs of three Rajput kings.
Buddhi (Old) Chanderi : The old Chanderi city is referred to as Buddhi. This place is visited by a large number of Jains each year because of the presence of a large number of Jain temples belonging to the 9th and 10th century.
