About the Folklore Museum in Jaisalmer :
A single man’s imaginative collection by Mr. N.K.Sharma bestowed with the National Teacher’s Award and the author of the book Jaisalmer The Golden City. The famous museum named “ Jaisalmer Folklore Museum ” was established in 1984 followed by the Desert Cultural Centre in February 1997. The Centre was inaugurated by the His Excellency The Vice President of India K.R. Narayanan. The Centre and museum are both located close to the historical and traditional Gadisar Lake .
Local costumes, meaning of colours and designs, historical old photographs, paintings, coins, fossils, camel ornaments, musical instruments, many other traditional articles and very old manuscripts. A very informative well arranged and documented museum with clear and concise explanations in English. Highly recommended in many guidebooks. A video showing musicians playing traditional instruments and detailing other traditional skills can be viewed in the Centre on request. This video is currently available in English, French and Hindi.
The Folklore cultural Museum aims to highlight the various living practices and objects of ancient tradition. Our aims are to preserve the cultural art, desert history, literature, tradition, music and other art performing tasks. We provide the authentic information about cultural art of jaisalmer and training for local guides.
In our museum you will find local costumes of jailsalmer, historical old photograph, paintings, coins, fossils, camel ornaments, musical instruments and many other traditional articles and very old manuscripts. Books are available in English, French, German, Spanish and Italian explaining about Rajasthan’s history, art and culture. Post cards, music cassettes CDS and VCD”s of Jaisalmer Golden City and Puppet Shows are also available in Hindi, English and French.

Folklore Museum: 8 A.M. to 12 P.M , 3 P.M. to 6 P.M.
Desert Cultural Centure: 10 A.M. to 5 P.M.
Museum Entry Fees: 20 Rs.
