About the Vivekananda Memorial :
The Vivekananda Rock Memorial is located at Kanyakumari where the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal merge with the great Indian Ocean. The Vivekananda Rock has been dedicated to the Indian Philosopher Vivekananda who had spent his days trying to awake the Indians from their state of stupor. Vivekananda dedicated most of his life trying to awaken the inner soul of man.
People, who turned into his disciples, were touched by his sermons and began living simpler lives, coupling it with high thinking. For the pilgrims the Vivekananda Rock Memorial is an enlightening experience. They come here in order to discover some of the hidden truths of life inside the large auditorium; meditating in front of the colossal statue of Vivekananda ensures peace in their soul. This is called the Dhyana Mandapam of the Vivekananda Memorial in Kanyakumari .
It is an important place of attraction for the religious campaigners. Vivekananda Memorial, Kanyakumari is located on the two rocks projecting from the sea, at 400 meters from the land in Kanyakumari. In the year 1892 the great Indian Philosopher came to this place and spent his time in meditating. The meditation in mid-sea enlightened him and he transformed into a great philosopher of the era and earned him global fame. The Vivekananda Rock Memorial was constructed in the year 1970 and the unique blend of architectural style of India is conspicuous in the Memorial erected in the rock.
A bold and unique statue stands inside the huge hall and this is also the prayer room. People leave their shoes outside and go with a pure heart to the meditation Hall and pray with their eyes closed in front of the colossal statue. Perhaps the divine soul of this great philosopher rests somewhere inside the magnificent hall. To the south east direction lies the Kumari Amman Temple.

by Air: The nearest airport is at Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram), 86 kms away, with regular flights to Bangalore, Mumbai, Cochin, Delhi, Goa, and Madras.
by Rail: Kanyakumari railway station on broad gauge line is situated at a distance of 1km from the port and is connected to Trivandrum. Tirunelvelli (83 km) is the other nearest railway junction.
