About Perur Patteeswaraswamy Temple Coimbatore :
7 km from Coimbatore, Perur Patteeswaraswamy temple is situated on the shores of River Noyyal. It is one of the most popular temples of Coimbatore and has huge statues. Its reference can be found in the poetic creations of Arunagiri Nather and Kachiappa Munivar. The origin of the temple goes back to pre Christian era. The innermost shrine is build by Karikala Cholan while Chola rulers of 11 th to 13 th century made several endowments to the temple. Perur Patteeswaraswamy Temple structure also contains contributions of the Hoysalas and the Vijaynagar rulers.The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Shiva as Patteeswarar and his consort Pachai Nayaki, worshipped in the form of “ Swayambu Lingam ”. This temple is also known by the name of Mel Chidambaram. Coimbatore Patteeswaraswamy temple also comprises of several impressive towers and mandapams. The roof of the temple has a series of stone chains that give a different character to the temple. Besides of these temple also has ten pillars that have magnificent carvings of the various manifestations of Shiva.
